Traveler In the Dark by Marsha Norman Director: Stewart Reed Drama: November 1-10 Description: A brilliant surgeon and cancer researcher, Sam basks in the aura of success and adulation that his career has brought him. But suddenly his world is shattered when his longtime nurse and confidant, Mavis, dies on the operating table because he failed to detect the seriousness of her condition in time. Gathering up his neglected wife and possessively loved son, he returns to the home of his aging father, a revivalist preacher with whom he has long been at odds. Guilty about his relationship with Mavis, his childhood sweetheart whose love he never returned, and jealous of his father's affection for her, Sam finds that the older man is unable, or unwilling, to assuage the guilt that torments him. In essence the play becomes an eloquent, deeply felt debate about the conflict between science and religion—Sam's growing doubts about the values he has lived by and his father's flinty unwillingness to relax his own strongly held beliefs. As the play ends there is a tentative reconciliation between father and son, with love and self-knowledge mitigating, but not resolving, the alienation which their differing perceptions, and uncertainties, have forced on them. It's a great way to ask an actor about the challenges of their role. or hear from the directors about their concept for the show and why they approached the show the way they did. Ask whatever you like. A Talk back is the perfect opportunity to get the inside track on what goes into every show! Begins 5 minutes after the show to give escape time to those that don't wish to stay... but you should try it! So join us and TALK BACK! |

OTHER DISCOUNTS: We won't be able to pay the bills if we drop pricing lower, but we strive to be accessible to the entire community. We can work with you on options including veteran, senior, student, and group rates as needed. Other opportunities are also available to usher or become part of our ESR family. DOORS OPEN: Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime.
PARKING: The Citadel parking lot is reserved for Citadel residents and for people needing mobility assistance. Free, three hour parking is available along Huron Ave.
SEATING ACCOMMODATIONS: We now have assigned seating! You choose your seats when you purchase your tickets. None of our seats are far from the stage, typically, with each row 8" above the previous. Please consider mobility issues and the need for companion seats with them when reserving the front row.
MOBILITY ISSUES: We do our best to accommodate mobility issues. We have such limited seating that we suggest buying as early as possible, especially for our front row. If the entire front row is taken and you can't come another day that has an opening, please contact us to see what accommodations we can arrange within the scope of a particular show.
HEARING ASSISTANCE: Please give us advanced notice if you need one of our amazing receivers for our hearing loop.
