Celebrate the Holiday Season with ESR’s Classic Rudolph The Musical
Celebrate the holidays with the entire family at Enter Stage Right’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, running weekends in November and December.
This adaptation of Robert May’s 1964 beloved TV classic will whisk viewers away to the Island of Misfit Toys. Follow Rudolph and his friends – including Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, and Yukon Cornelius – as they go on an adventure to remind us that what makes you different also makes you special.
“These misfits, they go out on their own because of the bullying that they’re experiencing and find their own way,” said Director Regina Spain. “They find other misfits on the Island of Misfit Toys, and they find power in that.”
The production runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from November 14 to 23 and December 5 to 21 at The Citadel Stage in downtown Port Huron. Pre-sale tickets are available at ESR’s website for $15 for children or $20 for adults.
Spain said it was enjoyable to design costumes that bring the original Claymation characters to life.
“Seeing it with real humans really puts an exclamation point on the message that you should allow everybody to be a little bit of a misfit,” Spain said. “It has all the feel-goods and nostalgia that you remember. People are excited that it’s something they grew up with, to see it live on stage, and share it with their kids and grandkids.”
About 24 artists of all ages spent five months preparing for the show. Actors will also play 1960s-style “commercials” sponsored by local businesses during the show, Spain said.
Audience members who attend opening weekend will automatically be entered into a raffle, with one winner pulled per night. Get a second raffle entry by wearing a costume to match each theme night: don your finest dress for Friday opening night; come dressed as a character Saturday night; or wear pajamas on Sunday.
On Sunday, November 23, the cast, tech, and directors of the production will come out on stage following the show for an informal discussion with the audience.
